IT SECURITY AND SAFETY CLUSTER

A brief introduction

The Bavarian IT Security and Safety Cluster is made up of companies from the IT branch,
businesses which make use of security technologies, universities, further education
institutions and law firms. Founded officially in May 2006, the Bavarian IT Security and
Safety Cluster initiates and promotes cooperation, keeps members informed about IT
security risks and solutions, offers an opportunity for members to demonstrate their
expertise in IT security and training and also integrates newly formed businesses into the
network.

Technological Focus

The Bavarian IT Security and Safety Cluster is based on a forum system, its four the
matically different areas reflecting the interests of its members. As these interests tend
to overlap, they are increasingly covered by more than one forum.

1. IT Security Forum
Members exchange their technical questions on matters of IT security and deal with the
marketing of IT security products.

2. Data and Information Security Forum
This forum deals with current legal and organizational matters in IT security, with
particular reference to data protection. Members exchange their own business experience
as well as inviting input from specialists on current issues.

3. Automotive Forum for Safety Software Systems
Businesses and organizations with an interest in the development of safe softwareintensive
automotive systems are offered a platform in this forum. In addition to the
possibilities afforded by this open-access network, there is a focus on training and further
education.

4. Security Engineering Forum
This forum is concerned with the technology aimed at improving security and system
integration, above all via IP networks. Distinctive Features /Unique Selling Point /International Contacts.

The main aim of the Bavarian IT Security and Safety Cluster is to provide a network for
both businesses and universities which should support the transfer of knowledge within
the region and in turn make the region more competitive. The networking of the cluster aims to increase its members’ potential for cooperation, as well as to raise its profile and make it more attractive in general. On a national level, the network is lent further impetus by branches in Augsburg and Nuremberg.The cluster is also part of a network of professional bodies, local authorities, government ministeries and other clusters. Internationally, the Bavarian IT Security and Safety Cluster works with clusters in Belgium, Denmark and Poland.

The cluster’s location at the IT Founders’ Centre IT Incubator in Regensburg offers many
useful contacts to other projects based there, such as the Bavarian IT Logistics Cluster,
the network of the electromobility initiative. Intelligent Loading Technology’ and IT
Founders’ Support. The resulting synergy is put to good use in the form of projects and
cooperation between different clusters.
